Anchor Lantern - Lite
The classic
anchor lamp in a lighter model. This is the same as
our regular copper Anchor Lamp but is made with lighter
materials. The copper is not as thick. The brass handle and
rope guides are not as thick and the glass lens is also not
as thick. The style is the same as those used on sailing ships for hundreds of years.
The anchor lamp is named
for it's use. A 360o white light is required to be
displayed at the highest point
( the tallest mast) on
all vessels at anchor or under way at night. These oil
burning lanterns were made to be lit and hoisted to the top
of the mast with one rope tied to the handle and 2 ropes
through the brass guides to keep it from swaying as the ship
rolled with the sea.
